A drying/evaporating system experienced a numerous issues related to the outdated PLC-5 control system, which included a PanelView 1400e. The system was upgraded to a new ControlLogix L81E with a new PanelView Plus and remote PLC-5 I/O on RIO was converted to Ethernet/IP. Two Flex I/O chassis on RIO were also converted to Ethernet/IP. We were able to complete all the wiring on day 1 and begin I/O checkout on the day 2 and return the system to production by the end of day 2. In addition to getting a brand new control system, scan time was reduced from 147ms to 3ms.
